The Mantra Mandala is surrounded by the Sanskrit universal peace mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum“. There are different translations of the mantra depending on the different schools of Buddhism. One accepted translation is “jewels in the lotus”, where lotus means purity. The various petals represent good fortune, peace, power and protection. Om Mani Padme Hum is the iconic chanted mantra of Buddhism. Consisting of six syllables, it blesses the heart and mind of the practitioner.
Om is the sound or ‘oscillation’ of the whole universe. This sound is the most important, repeated as a mantra, it helps to remove attachment to the ego and encourages generosity.
Ma eliminates jealousy and encourages ethical behaviour.
Ni eliminates desire and encourages patience.
Pad, removes prejudice and encourages perseverance.
Me eliminates possessiveness and encourages concentration.
Hum eliminates hatred and encourages wisdom.
