Let’s explore the origin of mandalas, their cultural significance across regions and their symbolic meaning. We can bring their special energy into our homes through handmade furniture and home accessories decorated with mandala designs.

In the world of art and design, mandalas have captured the human imagination for centuries. Their cultural and spiritual significance may vary over time and continents, but each mandala has a rich history that connects us to a positive vibration of amazing energy. Intricately carved geometric or natural patterns, often associated with meditation and mindfulness, have transcended their roots and have become timeless symbols of harmony and balance. In this blog article, we trace the origins of mandalas, exploring their symbolic motifs and discovering how they manifest in our homes in the modern world.

Origins of the Mandala

The word “mandala” has its roots in Sanskrit, the ancient language of Hinduism. In its essence, mandala translates to “circle,” representing the universe and the interconnectedness of all life. While mandalas are often associated with Hindu and Buddhist traditions, these mesmerizing patterns have emerged independently in various cultures across the globe.

In Hinduism, mandalas are used as spiritual symbols in rituals and ceremonies, representing the cosmos and the cyclical nature of existence. In Buddhism, monks create intricate sand mandalas as a form of meditation, only to dismantle them upon completion, emphasizing the impermanence of life.

Main Motifs in Mandalas

Mandalas feature a variety of motifs, each carrying its own unique symbolism. Common elements include circles, squares, triangles, and lotus flowers. The circle, in particular, is a central motif that represents unity, wholeness, and the cyclical nature of life.

The lotus flower, with its roots in the mud and petals reaching towards the sun, symbolizes purity, enlightenment, and spiritual rebirth. Geometric shapes like squares and triangles embody stability and balance, contributing to the overall harmony of the mandala.

Mandala types you may encounter

Mantra Mandala

A Mantra Mandala is a unique expression of sacred sound in visual form. Centered around a specific mantra, a sacred utterance or chant, this mandala aims to embody the vibrational essence of the chosen mantra. The repetition of the mantra within the mandala’s design is believed to invoke spiritual energies and amplify the meditative experience. The visual representation of the mantra within the mandala serves as a powerful tool for concentration and contemplation, fostering a connection between the practitioner and the divine vibrations embedded in the sacred words.

Lotus Flower Mandala Design

The Lotus Flower Mandala encapsulates the profound symbolism associated with the lotus in various spiritual traditions. Emerging from the mud and unfolding its petals toward the sun, the lotus symbolizes purity, enlightenment, and spiritual rebirth. In mandala form, the lotus flower is often placed at the center, surrounded by intricate geometric patterns. The layers of the lotus represent different stages of spiritual awakening, making this mandala a powerful emblem of growth, renewal, and the journey toward transcendence. Beyond its spiritual significance, the Lotus Flower Mandala’s aesthetic beauty has made it a popular motif in art, meditation, and, as mentioned earlier, even in furniture design.

Kalachakra Mandala

The Kalachakra Mandala, rooted in Tibetan Buddhism, holds profound significance as a symbol of time and cycles. Comprising intricate geometric patterns and vibrant colors, this mandala represents the celestial palace of the Kalachakra deity, embodying the interplay of time, space, and the ever-changing nature of existence. The Kalachakra Mandala is often used in rituals and meditative practices associated with the Kalachakra Tantra, fostering a deep understanding of cosmic cycles and spiritual transformation.

Buddha Life Mandala

The Buddha Life Mandala serves as a visual narrative of the life and teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, the historical Buddha. Through a series of concentric circles or squares, each layer depicts key events in the Buddha’s life, from his birth to enlightenment and eventual passing into Nirvana. These mandalas serve as contemplative aids, guiding followers through the stages of the Buddha’s journey and encouraging reflection on the path to enlightenment. Each element within the mandala holds symbolic significance, contributing to a holistic representation of the Buddha’s transformative existence.

Mandalas in Furniture and Home Design

The fascination with mandalas is not limited to spiritual practices and art. Mandala motifs have also found their way into furniture design and home decoration, adding mystical and cultural richness to interiors.

Tables, chairs and cabinets decorated with mandala, geometric or floral motifs bring a sense of balance and tranquility to living spaces. The intricate designs are often carved into wood, creating functional works of art that serve both aesthetic and practical purposes.

The use of mandala motifs in furniture design is not limited to a specific cultural or religious context. Designers are drawing inspiration from the universal appeal of mandalas and incorporating them into a variety of styles – from traditional to modern, from art deco to minimalism, every design style is represented.

Tömörfa tároló láda kézzel faragott lótusz és napraforgó motívumokkal

Mandalas with their ancient roots and timeless appeal continue to fascinate and inspire people around the world. In addition to their traditional role in spiritual practices, these simple and captivating motifs have also found their way into contemporary design, adding cultural richness and symbolism to furniture. As we integrate mandalas into our living spaces, we both celebrate the beauty of these geometric wonders, and bring a sense of balance and harmony into our homes. Whether in meditation or in the midst of daily life, the subtle vibrations of mandalas remind us that everything in the universe is interconnected and the beauty that lies in the cycle of existence is eternal.

Marco Polo was a Venetian explorer and trader famous for his extensive travels in Asia during the 13th century. His adventures and writings have had a lasting impact on the world of exploration and trade. Over the course of 24 years, he travelled nearly 15,000 miles (24,000 km)! Fascinated by the exotic beauty and diversity of the Oriental world, his writings are filled with depictions of the lush landscapes, ornate palaces and millennia-old cultures he encountered on his travels.

He is often credited for opening the doors of the East to the Western world. His remarkable journey along the ancient Silk Road, which spanned more than two decades, introduced Europe to the riches and wonders of Asia. In this article, we briefly recall the life and adventures of Marco Polo and his enduring legacy, the man who bridged continents and cultures. At the age of 17, he embarked on an extraordinary journey to the East, accompanying his father and uncle on a voyage that took them through the Byzantine Empire, the Middle East and finally to the court of Kublai Khan, the Mongol ruler of China. Marco’s vivid descriptions of the cultures, people and landscapes he encountered along the way were later compiled in his famous travel diary, ‘The Travels of Marco Polo’.

During his long stay at the court of Kublai Khan, he served as the Khan’s trusted advisor and diplomat, which enabled him to explore not only China but also distant regions such as Tibet and Burma. His observations on the Khan’s empire provided Western readers with invaluable insights into the then little-known world of the East.

Marco Polo travelled extensively along the Silk Road, the ancient trade route linking Asia with Europe. Along the way he encountered exotic spices, precious gems, unique silk textiles, solid wood furniture and a rich history of cultures. His accounts of these discoveries later inspired European traders and explorers and paved the way for the growth of trade between East and West.

Oriental hardwood furniture is popular for its excellent craftsmanship and symbolically significant designs. The furniture often features intricate carvings, inlaid details and rich, exotic woods that catch the eye, just like the landscapes and cultures Marco Polo encountered. Crafted with patience and skill, oriental hardwood furniture stands the test of time, handed down through generations, preserving the history of oriental history and art.

Marco Polo’s travels not only enriched Western understanding of the East, but also had a profound impact on later generations of explorers and traders. His detailed accounts of distant lands and their treasures aroused the curiosity of later adventurers, including Christopher Columbus, who is said to have had a well-read copy of Marco Polo’s book.

Marco Polo’s legacy as a brave explorer and versatile trader endures to this day. His journeys on the Silk Road, his contacts with Kublai Khan and his influential book have left an imprint on the history of exploration and the links between our world. Marco Polo’s story is a testament to the power of curiosity and the enduring human desire to explore the unknown, making him a timeless figure in history.
When it comes to home interior design, spaces like hallways and entryways provide great opportunities to make a memorable first impression. Imagine walking into a home that exudes warmth, style, and a touch of exotic allure. Embracing tropical hardwood furniture and incorporating elements like console tables, coat hangers made of natural branches of trees in Thailand, and charpai benches from India can truly transform these often-neglected areas into captivating focal points. In this blog article, we’ll explore how to infuse the spirit and vibrant energy of Asia into your home’s hallways and entryways using these distinct design elements.

The Timeless Elegance of Hardwood Furniture

Tropical hardwoods – like mangowood, acacia or teakwood – known for their durability and stunning grain patterns, bring an air of timeless elegance to any space. Incorporating hardwood furniture such as a console table can instantly elevate the style quotient of your hallway. Opt for a console table with intricate carvings and designs motifs that reflect the rich heritage of India, adding an individual touch to your décor or choose a subtle yet majestic piece. Teak, mangowood, rosewood and mimosa are popular choices that blend the tropical vibe seamlessly with any home décor design.

Console Tables

Console tables are versatile pieces that bridge the gap between style and function. Placing a beautifully crafted console table in your entryway offers a surface for decorative accents, framed photographs, or a welcoming bouquet of flowers. Consider designs that feature intricate latticework, hand-painted motifs, or elegant brass inlays, capturing the essence of Indian craftsmanship.

Coat Hangers

Charpai Benches

One of the most captivating elements of Indian interior design is the charpai bench. This traditional daybed, often crafted from sturdy wooden frames and woven jute or cotton ropes, brings a cozy, ethnic vibe to your entryway. Incorporate colorful cushions and textiles that reflect India’s vibrant culture. Charpai benches not only provide extra seating but also tell a story of cultural heritage and craftsmanship.

Blending East and West

Incorporating these elements from Indian design doesn’t mean you have to forsake your personal style. By blending East and West, you can create a harmonious fusion that speaks to your individuality. Mix hardwood furniture with contemporary elements like sleek lighting fixtures, modern artwork, space dividers with spot lights or minimalist décor to achieve a balanced and inviting atmosphere.

Colour choices and accessories

When decorating with tropical hardwood furniture and Indian-inspired pieces, consider a color palette inspired by nature – warm earth tones, vibrant greens, and deep blues. Complement your furniture with textiles, rugs, and wall art that feature traditional Indian patterns like paisleys or mandalas. Brass accents and intricately designed mirrors can add a touch of opulence to your space.

Discover our inspiration behind the ‘Atlas collection‘ in our store. In the world of interior design and home decor, hardwood furniture stands as an enduring testament to craftsmanship, resilience, and timeless beauty. Much like the mythical character Atlas, who bore the weight of the world on his shoulders, hardwood furniture carries the significance of history and culture, serving as an integral part of our living spaces. This is story exploring the enduring charm of hardwood furniture while drawing parallels to the legend of Atlas and the map of the world inviting you on a journey of discovery.

The Legacy of Atlas: Carrying the World

In Greek mythology, Atlas was a Titan condemned to bear the heavens upon his shoulders as punishment for his role in the Titanomachy. This iconic image of Atlas supporting the celestial sphere serves as a powerful metaphor for the strength and endurance required in crafting and preserving hardwood furniture.

The Strength of Hardwood: Bearing the Weight of Time

Just as Atlas bore the world, solid wood furniture carries its own weight—the weight of time. Hardwood, known for its exceptional durability and strength, stands the test of time, often being passed down through generations. The intrinsic sturdiness of hardwood furniture mirrors Atlas’s unyielding determination to bear his celestial burden.

The Craftsmanship Behind Hardwood Furniture: A Herculean Task

Creating exquisite solid wood furniture out of teakwood and mango demands a level of craftsmanship akin to the labours of Hercules. Skilled artisans must meticulously shape, carve, and assemble these pieces, transforming raw wood into functional works of art. It’s a labor-intensive process that pays homage to the dedication required of Atlas to hold up the world.

Atlas in Interior Design: Mapping Aesthetic Appeal

Beyond its structural prowess, handmade hardwood design furniture brings an unparalleled aesthetic appeal to any space. The intricate grains and rich tones of wood species like teak, mangowood, and mimosa create a sense of warmth and luxury. Much like a world map (an atlas) adds depth and character to geography, furniture made of tropical wood enriches interior spaces with its natural beauty.

Global Influence of Hardwood: Connecting Continents

Just as Atlas carries the weight of the world, hardwood furniture connects continents through the global timber trade. Different wood species from around the world contribute to the creation of these pieces. Teak and mahogany from South America, mango and teak from Southeast Asia all find their way into homes worldwide, bridging cultures and continents through the artistry of furniture making.

Sustainability and Conservation: A Modern-Day Challenge

In today’s world, sustainability and responsible sourcing are critical considerations when it comes to hardwood furniture. We must strive to ensure that the legacy of hardwood furniture aligns with the spirit of environmental responsibility, just as Atlas’s burden aligns with the preservation of the cosmos.

In the grand tapestry of human history, hardwood furniture weaves a story of strength, endurance, and aesthetic splendor that mirrors the mythical character Atlas. Much like Atlas bore the world on his shoulders, hardwood furniture carries the weight of time and craftsmanship, offering us not only functional pieces but also pieces of art that enrich our homes and connect us across the globe. Just as the atlas is a map of the world, hardwood furniture serves as a map of human creativity and resilience in the realm of interior design.

In the world of interior decor, mirrors play an essential role in adding depth, style, and charm to any living space. Embracing the rich heritage of India’s craftsmanship, artisans have ingeniously merged sustainable practices with cultural motifs to create truly exceptional mirrors. In this article, we will explore the world of unique mirrors made in India, showcasing the brilliance of mango wood and recycled teak wood. Some of these mirrors resemble a vintage Arabic/Moroccan style, while others show real innovation through using textile printing blocks integrated into their frames.

Bringing the past to reenergised new life with vintage Arab and Moroccan-inspired mirrors

India’s artistic legacy has always been intertwined with influences from various cultures and regions. Vintage mirrors, crafted with recycled teak wood, capture the charming appeal of Arabic and Moroccan aesthetics. The skilled artisans breathe new life into discarded teak wood, shaping it into mesmerizing patterns and ornate frames reminiscent of the rich heritage of these regions. From intricate geometrical designs to captivating arabesque patterns, these mirrors add a touch of exotic flavour to modern interiors while honoring the timeless traditions of the past.

Sustainable Beauty: Recycled Teak Wood Mirrors

Recycled teak wood mirrors are not just a visual delight but also an authentic choice for eco-conscious homeowners. Teak wood, known for its durability and sturdiness, gets a second life through recycling, reducing the strain on natural resources. Each piece carries a unique history, adding character and charm to your living space. The rustic elegance of these mirrors blends harmoniously with a variety of interior styles, making them a versatile and sustainable choice for home decor enthusiasts.

Embracing Innovation: Mango Wood Mirrors with Textile Printing Blocks

Moving beyond traditional methods, innovative Indian artisans are reimagining mirror making by transforming textile blocks made from mango wood to mirror frames. These unique mirrors celebrate the vibrant and colourful energy of Indian textiles, capturing the intricate patterns and motifs of the printing blocks. The result is a stunning fusion of texture and creation, where each mirror becomes a work of art expressing the artist’s creativity. These handmade masterpieces not only adorn the walls, but also celebrate India’s cultural diversity.

The Magnificence of Mango Wood

A popular sustainable choice, the mango tree is most admired for its unrivalled veining, unique patterns and distinctive colour variations. When used in hand-carved mirrors, it radiates a contemporary yet earthy appeal that complements the modern design aesthetic. By using this renewable resource, Indian artisans are playing a key role in promoting responsible sourcing and environmental awareness in the world of home furnishing. Choosing a mirror made from mango wood not only enhances the beauty of your home, but also supports ethical logging and environmental conservation.

A Mirror for Every Space

Whether you’re looking for an antique-inspired piece of dignified furniture or a modern work of art, Indian mirrors made from mango wood and recycled teak offer a wide selection to suit all tastes and styles. From the entryway through the living room and into bedrooms and bathrooms, these mirrors serve both functional and decorative purposes, making them the perfect addition to all areas of your home.

In the world of home decor, Indian mirrors made from recycled teak wood and new mango wood represent a harmonious blend of sustainability, culture, and artistry.

Rice baskets have a long history in Thailand and are an essential part of the country’s cultural heritage. These baskets, known as “krajood” in Thai, are traditionally used for various purposes, particularly for storing, transporting, and cooking rice. Let’s explore the history and making of rice baskets in Thailand.

A Brief History:

The use of rice baskets in Thailand dates back centuries and is closely connected to the country’s agricultural heritage. Rice has been a staple crop in Thailand for thousands of years, and rice baskets have played a crucial role in the processing and preservation of rice. In the past, rice baskets were handmade by skilled artisans using locally available materials such as bamboo, rattan, or other natural fibers. These materials were abundant in Thailand’s tropical climate and offered durability and flexibility, making them ideal for basket weaving.

Making of Rice Baskets:

The process of making rice baskets in Thailand involves several steps, from harvesting the raw materials to the intricate weaving techniques. Here’s a general overview:

1. Material Preparation:

The first step involves gathering the necessary materials. Bamboo and rattan are commonly used for weaving rice baskets. The bamboo is cut into sections of suitable length, while rattan is collected and prepared by removing its thorns and soaking it in water to increase its pliability.

2. Stripping and Splitting:

The bamboo is then stripped of its outer layer to expose the smooth inner surface, which will be used for weaving. The bamboo is split into thin, uniform strips using a knife or other suitable tools. Similarly, the rattan is split into smaller strands to facilitate weaving.

3. Weaving Technique:

Although the history reaches back to ancient civilizations in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and other regions, the culture of opium dens became prominent in China during the 17th century then spread to Western countries, particularly during the 19th century. Cities such as London, Paris, San Francisco, and New York had opium dens that catered to Chinese immigrants and other users. Smoking this substance is now illegal and should be avoided due to its potential for abuse and harm, but the legacy of the furniture used in these establishments stays with us.

Opium dens had a distinct atmosphere and decor, with these characteristic tables being a prominent feature, thus they became known as “opium tables“.

Opium tables were designed to provide a suitable surface for smokers to consume comfortably. They were usually low to the ground, allowing users to recline or sit close to the table while smoking from pipes or other smoking apparatus.

Recent history:

From the second half of the 20th century these tables have reinvented themselves and moved onto a fresh start. With their beautiful curved legs, sturdy but simplistic look, they are a great addition to any home décor style, lending it an elegant, oriental feel.

Design and appearance:

Most commonly you find tropical hardwood ones without carving in a square or rectangular shape made of mango-, teak- or rosewood hand crafted by skilled woodworkers in India. Or slightly lighter versions from Acacia, which are most commonly from Thailand and they depict carvings of elephants and a tropical jungle. Finding console tables with opium design is a rare treasure.

Most recognizable for its beautifully curved legs, you can find them on almost every continent from Africa to the Americas1!

As the minimalist interior design is expanding worldwide, the furniture market has been moving towards mass produced lighter wood products that can be manufactured at much lower cost and much faster, albeit generally speaking providing much lower quality and feel.

The aging generation of skilled craftsmen are retiring, which was accelerated during covid where many small businesses collapsed due to lack of demand. The younger generations are looking for easier work and pay in the cities, so this skillset is slowly disappearing, making these products more rare to find and moving towards a “collectibles market“.

Sharing our passion:

Discover our selection of handmade solid wood simply majestic coffee tables from India and Thailand. The grain and pattern of mango wood from India lends a vibrant exotic feel to the opium tables. The acacia wood opium tables are decorated with handcarved motifs or are simply brought to us as beautiful console tables.

The natural brown colour radiates stability and a calm energy, recommended to be placed where the family and friends gather, it will help lighten the mood and inspires good conversations with your loved ones.

Decorate your home with these magnificent tables, they will stay with you for generations, becoming part of your family’s story.

Colour choices influence mood

Not surprisingly, colour is a major component of how we perceive the world around us. The colours in our environment have a strong influence on our moods and emotions. When you start to think about the interior design of your home, make sure you use colours in a way that matches the mood and energy you want to create in the space. The origins of modern colour psychology date back to the early 19th century, when Johann Wolfgang von Goethe published his book Theory of Colour. He was mainly interested in the psychological and physiological effects of colour. There have been many interpretations of the meaning of shades among researchers, interior designers and marketing professionals, and we have collected the descriptions that are closest to our own:

White: colour of connection, communication, empathy, faith, spirituality, healing. It suggests a sense of purity, cleansing. It is a great way to define a space, it is best used in combination with other colours. White is perfect for any room in the house or apartment, be it the hall, kitchen, bedroom, living room or bathroom. It creates an air of lightness and clarity and adds a positive energy to your home.

Grey: like white, it is a colour of sensitivity, empathy, faith, spirituality, healing and regeneration. It creates a sense of relaxation and calm. Grey can be used in rooms such as the home office or bathroom. This cool colour works in every space from the kitchen to the bedroom, and goes with any style of furniture, artwork and accessories. Grey even looks great in children’s rooms, creating a space that won’t outgrow.

Brown: the colour of security, stability, the material world and practicality. Like green, brown’s natural roots give a sense of calm. Designers have chosen brown for a wide range of styles, from classic to minimalist to loft, bringing comfort and stability to your home. Choose it for rooms where the family gathers, for furniture groups that encourage conversation, or for bedrooms where it conjures up a sense of warmth, quiet and calm.

Black: the colour of duality, setting boundaries, wisdom, defining a framework and progress. Because of its masculine nature, it is also used to express success and power. Black is classic, timeless, sophisticated and versatile. A colour that never goes out of fashion. It creates a timeless look in the room, as black is elegant, classic, powerful and gives a rich atmosphere to the home or office, creating a sense of wealth or opulence. Because black furniture can make a room feel smaller, it is best used in larger rooms.

Red: carries solar content, linked to the Sun. It primarily strengthens the qualities of creative will, action, initiative and healthy self-assertion. It can be used to warm and enrich spaces. A sophisticated deep reddish-red provides a welcoming backdrop for dining rooms and hallways, or can create a cosy fireplace in living rooms.

Green: colour of nature, represents the demonstration of the intention that has been set in motion. It symbolises the vertical and horizontal flow of vegetation, fertility and renewal. In combination with yellow or red, it supports the expression of action with success. It has a calming effect. Green is the perfect choice for a hallway or entryway because it eases the transition from the outside space, but it also looks great in a home office or living room.

Yellow: the colour’s solarisation indicates a less pronounced intention to act. In home decorating, it is associated with things that are warm and happy in life. Colour therapy uses shades of yellow to make people smile and feel happy. Yellow is also a popular wall paint colour, as it creates a feeling of warmth and cosiness, representing the sun. The best rooms to use yellow in are hallways, as they are usually dark and yellow is a welcoming colour, as well as in breakfast rooms to help get the day off to a bright, cheery start. In the bedroom, yellow is best avoided.

I was in Chiang Mai, in the artisan village of Baan Tawai, walked into one of the shops and found myself in front of a fabulous cabinet. I was captivated by a myriad of detailed carvings and elegant oriental lace arches and wondered what the carved patterns and symbols could mean ? What was in the mind of the artisan craftsman when he made this exquisitely detailed piece, what is their story and message that I can be a part of if I take this treasure home with me ?

Traditional symbols are a universal language, floral mandalas, geometric patterns, a multitude of animals have accompanied us on our daily journey for thousands of years. Symbols influence our subconscious and have been documented to affect our emotions and perceptions. For example, a chosen colour and motif can radiate positive energy or contribute to an overwhelming feeling.

Mandala motifs

The word mandala comes from the classical Indian language Sanskrit, meaning circle, arc, slice or disc. It is also thought to have a meaning related to the mind (manas meaning “mind”). It is often used in furniture designs, the circular shape representing wholeness, unity, togetherness and family.

A mandala is much more than a simple geometric shape. In Buddhist and Hindu culture it has a powerful symbolic meaning. It represents different aspects of the cosmos and is believed to guide the believer through the process of transformation of the universe. In China, Japan and Tibet, it is a symbolic expression of meditation and prayer, showing the way from suffering to joy and happiness.

The mandala is created primarily for meditation, to refresh the mind. The practice of Mandala art therapy allows us to divert our thoughts from negative things and increase the positive energies in our lives. It helps us to focus fully on ourselves as natural human beings and direct our minds towards our set goals.

Symbolic Meaning: mandala helps relieve stress, inspires positive thoughts and renewed energy.

Lotus flower

A prominent symbol in universal human cultural history, but especially in Buddhist and Egyptian culture, the lotus is the national flower of many countries. It dates back thousands of years of Oriental history and remains one of the most sacred flowers to this day.

The meaning of the lotus flower is the most meaningful of all spiritual symbols. It is a plant that can emerge from the dark, murky waters each day and offer a magnificent sight.

Symbolic Meaning: the renewal of the soul, learning through experience, self-knowledge, a deeper understanding of things and how to bring them to the surface.

Sunflower

The symbolism of this plant is closely linked to the sun, as the name already suggests. The golden colour and radiant petals make it a solar flower. A characteristic feature is that it turns towards the sun as it grows.

Symbolic Meaning: represents renewal, action and abundance.

Geometric symbols

The spear or javelin is a masculine symbol. It is a symbol of power, struggle and working towards goals, a common motif on furniture and fences.

Symbolic meaning: protection of our values is expressed in its representation.

The diamond shape is a symbol of space and time, fertility and existence on earth. The 4 equal triangles are connected to the elements of fire, water, earth and air, symbolizing their interaction.

Symbolic Meaning: brings structure and the energy of stability.

The laced arch is a powerful symbol that transcends time. Arches are structures of deep resonance, mythologically representing the doorway between time and space, through which we can enter another world. It is a solar, masculine motif, embodying masculine energies and thus a symbol of creative intent and action. The arch is a symbol of opening up to new perspectives, of seeing the other side. Crossing the arch is a rite of passage, when one leaves the old to discover the new.

Symbolic meaning: the ascent of the spirit and mind towards a higher ideal, a symbol of renewal.

Mosaic symbols represent the part of the whole, unity, togetherness and cooperation.

Symbolic meaning: recalling details and memories of our lives, recognising old patterns and creating new ones.

Animal motifs

Peacock

The peacock symbol is one of the most fascinating motifs in Hindu symbolism and the national bird of India. It also appears in Hungarian folk art in countless places and forms. It has both philosophical and spiritual meanings, symbolising divine grace, beauty and renewal. The peacock’s majestic, masculine, powerful and charismatic life is reflected in many mythological stories and tales; it has inspired many symbols of divinity, kingship, respect and immortality.

If you’re someone who sees luxury and extravagance as a necessity of life, then the peacock spirit may be watching over you. People with this kind of drive have an innate desire to live an extraordinary life and will settle for nothing less. Just as peacocks cannot see their own feathers and so are unaware of their beauty, we can be ignorant of our abilities and the gifts of life.

Symbolic meaning: represents regrowth, rejuvenation, respect, honour and integrity. It is also used as a symbol of beauty, love and passion.

Elephant

The elephant symbolizes many different meanings, most typically associated with abundance, success, strength, wisdom, independence, power, fertility, piety, serenity and longevity. A powerful and gentle giant, who carries with them the wisdom and intelligence of ages past. Represents facing obstacles and removing them from your path. If an elephant appears in your dreams, it could be a sign that there is an obstacle in your life that you need to deal with and that you cannot ignore any longer. In ancient times, elephants were trained for warfare from a young age, so today we can think of them as a symbol of protection.

Symbolic meaning: elephants are emblems of good luck and prosperity, using their enormous power to remove obstacles and negative forces. They also represent wisdom, longevity, memory and vitality.

Camel

Symbolic meaning of the camel: the ability to complete what has been started with composure and serenity on long difficult journeys. The representation of the camel signifies the possibility of accomplishing greater things with smaller means. The camel bears the burdens of life with dignity. It knows how to build up reserves for when times are harder. It has the strength to preserve ancient knowledge for a long time and to use it in the right place at the right time.
